Amber Ales originated in America and was used as a broad label describing most beers that were neither Pale Ales or dark beers, before adapting into its own unique style. While not quite being a pale, and not quite a dark ale, amber ale has a more pronounced caramel toffee flavour caused by adding additional malts to the mix.
