Armado Tempranillo Reserva 2011

Armado Tempranillo Reserva 2011

  • Tempranillo
  • Spain, 750ml

A multi-award winning Tempranillo Reserva from Valdepeñas. "Dark cherry red with a savoury bouquet infused with redcurrant fruit and cake spices, then spicy and savoury to the taste with lifted red berry fruit, a touch of orange zest and peppery spices. There's a nice touch of smokiness coming through, underlying earthy notes and a long dry finish lifted by vanillin oak and mint. Tannins are firm yet the wine is ripe and juicy with a pleasing generosity."

Castillo Armado pays homage to the armed fortresses of Valdepeñas, built in the late 8th century atop the large rocks of Spain’s central plains. As one of the Spain’s oldest winemaking regions, recognised as an official appellation of origin since 1932, Valdepeñas is home to some of Spain’s oldest vines. Some of Artiga's Tempranillo vines date back to the year of it's winery’s foundation in 1904 and their precious grapes are blended with those of Artiga's younger fruit.

"Our Story - Artiga was founded in Spain’s Vilafranca del Penedès in 2002 by Martí Quer. Prior to founding Artiga, Martí spent over a decade as Head Sommelier of Aureole in Manhattan’s spectacular Bank of America Tower, before taking his fine wine knowledge to Japan, where he introduced the country’s top importers to Spain’s most exclusive wines.

From the outset, Artiga has produced high-value, high-quality, beautifully presented, award-winning Spanish wines for wine lovers across the globe, with special focus on our native varieties; from Tempranillo and Garnacha, to Xarel.lo and Moscatel de Alejandría.

Life began for Artiga in DO Tarragona and DO Campo de Borja, but we have grown to produce wines in DO Yecla, DO Jumilla, DO Penedès, DO Cava, DO Catalunya, DO Toro, DO Valdepeñas and DOCa Rioja…

Winemaking - Pamela Geddes leads our winemaking, having joined our team in 2008. Pamela’s career began in 1989, when she left a life in Scotch whisky research to become the microbiologist of multi-award winning Penfold Wines in South Australia’s Barossa Valley. In the years that followed, Pamela produced for some of the most prestigious names in wine; from Spain’s Bodegas Torres to Seppelts and Great Western in Victoria, to Chile’s award-winning Viña Millaman, while all the time consulting for some of Spain’s leading producers and for some of the world’s top importers."
