Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris 2021

- New Zealand, 750ml
"It's serious in style with texture and complexity, yet offers instant appeal and upfront drinkability. The beautifully fragrant bouquet shows apricot, poached pear, oatmeal, subtle spice and floral notes on the nose, followed by a succulent palate displaying excellent weight and plush mouthfeel. Generous and harmonious, making it hugely appealing." Sam Kim

The wine is rich, but remains finely structured and beautifully balanced. Pinot Gris from the Lismore block always achieves optimum flavours later in the season. As a result, the grapes are pickedrelatively late to achieve a wine closer to the richer style of Pinot Gris made famous in the Alsace region of France, rather than the leaner, generally bone-dry 'Pinot Grigio' version, popular in the north of Italy.
"Bright, golden-straw-yellow with depth, even colour throughout. The nose is full and tightly bound, aromas of apricot, spice poached pear interweave jasmine and citrus blossom, enriched by a scent of creamy lees. Full-bodied, dry-ish to taste, a rich texture on the palate contributed by concentration and weight of creamy lees. Aromas of poached pear, lemon and citrus rind melded with an amalgam of spice and power, jasmine floral lingers to a fulsome, dry finish. The wine possesses lacy, balanced acidity, injects vitality and freshness to the lush, flavoursome palate. This is a rich textured Pinot Gris with lush fruit, fulsome mouthfeel with spice and power, classically stylish." Candice Chow
Ata Rangi, meaning "dawn sky" or "new beginning" is a small family owned New Zealand winery, located at the Southern end of the North Island. With a big reputation for serious Pinot Noir, founder and patriarch Clive Paton planted his first vines in 1980 and was one of four pioneer winemakers in the Martinborough area.
Alongside Clive, the vineyard is also owned and managed by Clive’s wife Phyll, and sister Alison. The talented trio, together with dynamic winemaker Helen Masters, have made Ata Rangi known for their flagship wine, Pinot Noir. In 2010, this wine was honoured with the inaugural Tipuranga Teitei o Aotearoa or "Grand Cru of New Zealand".
