Element Cabernet Merlot 2016
- Cabernet, Merlot Blend
- New Zealand, 750ml
Medium-full bodied and elegantly presented, the palate has a finely concentrated core of ripe blackcurrant, plum and blackberry fruit, along with dark herbs and iron-earth notes. The fruit is fresh and vibrant and supported by moderate, fine-grained tannin extraction and fresh acidity. The palate flows with good energy and linearity, leading to an elegant finish of blackcurrants, plums and herbs.

An elegant Cabernet Merlot from the esteemed Gimblett Gravels. Element is a very small-volume, family-run operation that grows fruit in the generous conditions of the Gimblett Gravels.
Element is a new and very stylish boutique range that is grown on the Gimblett Gravels of Hawkes Bay. "Element Wines is the label of Dominic and Rachelle Smith who own a 4.2 ha site on Mere Road in the Gimblett Gravels with 2.66 ha of vines. They have Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Viognier, the first vines planted in 2004. Their intention is to make wines that showcase varietal purity. The Smiths are hands-on with all aspects of the viticulture and winemaking, and employ open top fermenters and basket presses at a local winemaking facility. The wines from the 2015 vintage [were] their first commercial releases." Raymond Chan
