This Gris celebrates the pioneering, if not the very first, investigative journalist Nellie Bly. Struggling to find a work as a journalist she went undercover to exposé the New York City Lunatic Asylum. She checked herself in as a patient and uncovered the inhuman treatment of the mentally ill. She subsequently published her daring dispatches as a book, “Ten Days in a Mad-House”. Her book brought about widespread change. Nellie then made a famous, widely reported and intrepid 72-day trip around the globe before covering stories from the Eastern Front during World War I, and reported on the women’s suffrage movement. One of the first undercover investigative journalists — a true pioneer and daring activist.

Neck of the Woods goal is to make authentic wines that harness the weird and wild of Central Otago, staying true to the land with minimal intervention winemaking. They craft small batch fine wines including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and an Orange wine that show off this unique and wonderous wine region. Those that follow the rules rarely make history. So Neck of the Woods forge their own path. And do things their way. Are they unconventional? Yes. Uncompromising? Absolutely. But that’s exactly what makes their Neck of the Woods worth exploring. Neck of the Woods are lucky enough to call Jen Parr their leading lady/winemaker. An Oregon native and graduate of Stanford University, Jen has called Central Otago home since 2007. She has extensive international winemaking experience including in the USA, France, South Africa and Australia in addition to 17 harvests in NZ. Jen has been a Winemaker in Otago since 2007. In 2018 she was awarded the Winemaker of the Year at the NZ International Aromatic Competition and was nominated as one of six finalists for the Gourmet Traveler Magazine NZ Winemaker of the Year in 2019 for her work with Valli.
