Seresin Chiaroscuro 2018

Seresin Chiaroscuro 2018

  • Riesling, Pinot Gris
  • New Zealand, 750ml

"A blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer co-fermented in older puncheons and barriques, the 2018 Chiaroscuro features aromas of orange, lime and bergamot. It's medium-bodied and silky in texture, reasonably broad and mouthfilling, then it tightens up to deliver a crisp, green-apple finish." Joe Czerwinski

A co-fermented wine made from Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürtztraminer. The juice from all three varieties is tasted by our winemaker and viticulturalist and blended before fermentation, giving this wine a unique character that is different from that of a wine blended post-ferment. The complex nose shows fruit, spice and floral notes. The palate is rich and textural, with a structured elegance and vibrant acidity, providing a clean finish. A multidimensional wine, Chiaroscuro brings together elements of fruit, concentration, acidity, texture and minerality.

"Life is light, Light is life - Inspired by film-makers such as Truffaut and Fellini, Michael Seresin left his job as a PA at Pacific Films in his native New Zealand in 1966 to pursue a career as a freelance camera assistant in Europe. After 18 months in Rome and London, he graduated to lighting camera status and by 1968 was working alongside his future BFCS partners, Bob Brooks and Len Fulford. From 1970 he combined commercials work with shooting movies, becoming a director of photography for Harold Becker, Adrian Lyne and Alan Parker on films such as "Bugsy Malone", "Midnight Express", "City Hall" and "Harry Potter - The Prisoner of Azkaban". His most recent work includes filming a proportion of the Oscar-winning, “Gravity” and the cinematography for the critically-acclaimed “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”. In the early 1990s, he had a desire to create a winery which made wine in the most natural way possible and did not compromise on quality. It is this passion for organics, wine and food that forms the foundation of everything that Seresin Estate represents."

"We farm biodynamically. This means we work in harmony with seasonal, earthly and celestial rhythms. Our wines therefore express a sense of time, with wines from each harvest subtly different from its predecessor. We keep the vines healthy by feeding the soil with animal manure composts, and spraying the vine leaves with teas made from local herbs and minerals. We put more back into the land than we take out. As a result, our wines express an ever stronger sense of place. We see the vineyard as a living organism, a space that our workers, animals and wild birds, flowers, worms and insects can share. Our wines express this sense of life and harmony."

"Our estate lies in the sun-soaked heart of Marlborough at the top of New Zealand’s South Island, with vineyards spread across the warm stony Wairau Valley floor and up into the gentle clay slopes of the Omaka Valley to the south. Our specially chosen sites are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris for white wines, and Pinot Noir for reds. The vineyard floor is carpeted with wild flowers and grasses, and the air is full of the sound of the bees and birds."

"We believe that wine is just one part of a meal and therefore food lies at the heart of everything that we do at Seresin Estate. From the estate grown olive oils and wine vinegars that we make, through to the fruit, salads and vegetables that we grow for our annual series of dinners, we place value on healthy sustenance and the joy of a meal shared."
