The vines were planted in 1993 and originated from Ravenswood in California. The fruit is handpicked from just 6 rows in their Roy’s Hill Vineyard. Matured for 16 months in seasoned American oak barrels.
When Dr. Limmer planted his very first vineyard in the now-famous Hawke’s Bay wine region, nobody had even heard of viticulture. Armed with his history in soil science and a deep love of the finer things, he took a bet on the stony, infertile soil, and 30 years later the family-owned Stonecroft winery is still producing some of the finest vintage wines in the whole area. The bold and time-honoured flavours of Stonecraft wines are a testament to the risk-takers and pioneers that dared to take a chance as the very first vineyard in the region- even when the council told them it couldn’t be done! Now run by Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin, this winery only produces around 3000 cases a year, a showcase of the unique character of their vineyards, and proof that you are drinking the best, from the best. To this day Stonecroft has some of the oldest fruit-producing syrah vines in New Zealand and with their traditional approach to winemaking, each bottle proves again and again that perfection takes time- and their wine is worth the wait.
