Soren Crabb had a dream, the dream of creating his own brand of spirits which was born out of a passion for rum and gin. Settling into a distillery in Auckland, he set out to create a product that reflected New Zealand's rich history, which can be found in the company name, the botanicals they use, and the bottle design. Named after the year in which New Zealanders stood up for their rights, 1919 Distilling was born. Using New Zealand's finest botanicals including; Manuka Honey, NZ grown Otago cherries, oranges and lemons, and 1919 have created a truly unique, world class gin. Soren is driven by a mission to bring more transparency and integrity to the spirits industry. He chose not to compromise on the quality of ingredients and connection to the distilling craft for the sake of scalability.

1919 uses the best ingredients available, rather than cut corners; lemons and oranges grown in New Zealand, hand-picked cherries from Otago and sustainably sourced honey. They use ethanol that is made from sugar cane the same way they did it in the 1900's. This is unique in New Zealand. It’s cheaper and easier to use the alternative, whey ethanol, (made from milk), which is used by most brands. 1919's still is New Zealand made and custom built for 1919 Distillery. By choosing to get the still made locally, they were able to insure the absolute best quality and craftsmanship, while supporting the local grass roots distilling industry. 1919 is proud to have built their very own distillery, here in New Zealand, and they've kept the craft at the heart of what they do, which allows them to push the boundaries and create award-winning, innovative spirits.
