Casa Dragones was founded in 2009 by Bertha González Nieves, the first woman certified as a Maestra Tequilera by the Academia Mexicana de Catadores de Tequila, and entrepreneur Robert W. Pittman, co-founder of MTV. Sharing a vision to transform tequila from a spirit traditionally chased into one worthy of slow sipping and fine food, they launched Casa Dragones Joven as their first expression. The house takes its name from the Dragones cavalry of San Miguel de Allende, who helped ignite Mexico’s independence movement in 1810. Today, this historic city remains Casa Dragones’ spiritual home, while González Nieves continues to lead the woman-founded company as CEO, championing innovation, Mexican craftsmanship and a distinctly modern vision of luxury tequila.
