Fortaleza Tequila is produced at the historic La Fortaleza distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, revived in 2005 by Guillermo Erickson Sauza, a fifth-generation descendant of the Sauza family. Built on land originally acquired by his great-great-grandfather in the 1800s, the distillery was restored to preserve traditional tequila-making practices that had largely disappeared. With a deep respect for heritage and craft, Guillermo set out to produce tequila exactly as it was made generations ago. Fortaleza remains proudly independent and family run, operating at a deliberately small scale to protect quality, authenticity and historical integrity. Today it is revered as one of Mexico’s most traditional and uncompromising tequila producers.

Fortaleza tequilas are made exclusively from 100% estate-grown Blue Weber agave, harvested fully ripe from the Tequila Valley. Production follows time-honoured methods: agave is slow-cooked in brick ovens, crushed using a traditional tahona stone wheel, fermented naturally in open-air wooden vats, and distilled in small copper pot stills. Ageing takes place in carefully selected oak barrels for Reposado and Añejo expressions, adding subtle vanilla, spice and depth while preserving agave purity. The style is rich, textured and expressive, with no additives or shortcuts. Fortaleza has earned widespread international acclaim and numerous top awards, consistently praised for authenticity, complexity and its faithful expression of traditional tequila craftsmanship.
