On the nose, the sophisticated sweetness of red and dried fruits, raisins and dates, complement a spicy woodiness, with hints of cinnamon. On the palate, well rounded and smooth with body and character. Perceived sweetness of toffee and vanilla balanced with peach, cocoa and cloves. Remarkably long-lasting and elegant, with a hint of honey.
Carefully crafted from over 130 years of rum-making expertise, Brugal 1888 is first matured in American oak casks, followed by a second maturation in Spanish oak casks. This extensive maturation process creates a sophisticated spirit with a complex, rich and beautifully balanced flavour profile.

Brugal was founded by Andres Brugal Montener in 1888. Andres was a Spanish émigré in Cuba, and it was in Cuba that he learnt the methods of rum production. He emigrated to Puerto Plata, a province in the Dominican Republic, where he set up the business proper. A great number of Cuban immigrants were travelling to Puerto Plata to work the sugar cane fields and they proffered a ready workforce. Andre’s grandchildren built the company into the third largest rum producer after Captain Morgan and, of course, Bacardi. Brugal rum is produced in the traditional style and matured in American white oak barrels. Today, rather than by Cubans, the fields are worked by working class Dominicans and Haitians. They command a comparatively low wage. Varying varieties of rum are produced by Brugal, including several aged expressions and a famed white rum, reputed to be the purest from the Dominican Republic.
