Originating in the 18th century when British Pale Ales were being exported to India. Excess hops and additional alcohol were added as a natural preservative so the beer would last the long voyage. Modern IPAs have a strong, hoppy and bitter taste with higher levels of hops resulting in more of a citrus and floral flavour profile, perfect for hot summer days.
