The word 'Whiskey' comes from the Gaelic term "Uisce Beatha", meaning water of life. It is believed that Irish Monks brought the technique of distilling back to Ireland from their travels. The Irish modified this technique to produce Irish Whiskey, one of the first distilled drinks in Europe. Its popularity grew and was much loved by Queen Elizabeth I and even Czar Peter the Great of Russia.
