Craftsmanship & Story
Located on China’s historic Loess Plateau in Shanxi Province, Chateau Rongzi cultivates vineyards between 950 and 1,300 metres above sea level where intense sunlight and dramatic day–night temperature shifts produce wines of remarkable freshness and purity. Founded in 2007 by Zhang Wenquan, the estate gained international recognition through the consultancy of Jean-Claude Berrouet, former winemaker of Château Pétrus. Through careful vineyard management, hand harvesting and precision winemaking, the estate crafts refined wines that showcase the growing sophistication of China’s emerging fine wine regions.
Special Features
Chateau Rongzi Rosé reflects the unique character of high-altitude viticulture on the Loess Plateau. Vineyards sit around 1,100 metres above sea level where strong sunshine and dramatic diurnal temperature swings preserve vibrant acidity while building aromatic complexity. To survive harsh Siberian winters, every vine must be carefully buried beneath the soil each autumn and uncovered again in spring — a remarkable labour-intensive practice unique to northern Chinese vineyards. The wine is matured within the estate’s remarkable loess cave cellars, a vast underground network maintaining naturally stable temperature and humidity. The result is a refined Cabernet Sauvignon rosé defined by purity, freshness and elegant mountain minerality.

Food Pairings
This vibrant rosé pairs beautifully with dishes that mirror its freshness and delicate fruit character. Seared scallops, grilled prawns or citrus-dressed seafood salads allow the wine’s wild strawberry and pink grapefruit notes to shine, while its crisp acidity lifts the natural sweetness of the seafood.
It is equally impressive with lighter summer dishes such as burrata with fresh berries, grilled chicken with herbs, or Asian-inspired cuisine featuring gentle spice. The wine’s refreshing mineral finish also makes it a superb partner for Thai, Vietnamese or lightly spiced Sichuan dishes.
