Lunatic & Lover is New Zealand’s first and only distiller of botanical rum. A small craft distillery run by husband and wife team Matt and Angie who have a big vision of creating the world’s finest and most interesting rum.

With a name inspired by a line in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, they use  imagination and creativity as their guiding ethos when making their unique spirits.

To do so, this fledgling Auckland distillery makes the rum from scratch by hand, in a copper pot still using only organic ingredients. Locally sourced and exotic botanicals are combined through an innovative method of vapour infusion to create an unorthodox product that’s an outlier within the wider rum category. It’s not an easy or quick methodology and you’d have to be slightly crazy to contemplate releasing it as a product but that’s all part of the DNA at Lunatic & Lover. Just one look at the bottle tells you you’re in for something very different and utterly special.
