Whisky is made by distilling grains and evidence of this process of creating alcohol can be traced as far back as ancient Mesopotamia. Over the centuries, many governments have imposed taxes on alcohol, and when this occurred in Scotland, to avoid detection, distillers would work only at night when the smoke from the fires would be less visible. Thus the infamous nickname “moonshine” was born.
