Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is a refined, terroir-driven expression of Marlborough, shaped by organic viticulture, hand harvesting and a philosophy of minimal intervention. Vibrant yet textural, it moves beyond the typical style to deliver depth, saline minerality and remarkable ageing potential.
Tasting Notes & Experience
Pale straw with brilliant clarity, the nose bursts with freshly squeezed citrus — pink grapefruit, lemon, lime and mandarin zest — layered with crushed seashell, curry leaf, dried coriander and a subtle flinty reduction. The palate is juicy, energetic and intensely focused, revealing passionfruit, guava and white peach framed by crystalline acidity and a silky, lightly phenolic texture. Herbal freshness and saline minerality carry through to a long, cleansing, mineral-edged finish that is both quenching and poised.

Craftsmanship & Story
Founded in 2002 by industry pioneers Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, Dog Point was born from a desire to craft wines that speak clearly of Marlborough’s Southern Valleys. Both founders played pivotal roles in Marlborough’s early global success before establishing Dog Point as a focused, estate-driven project.
Today the winery operates New Zealand’s largest certified organic vineyard, combining hand harvesting, whole-bunch pressing and restrained winemaking to preserve purity and site expression. The result is Sauvignon Blanc with texture, structure and uncommon longevity.
Special Features
Fruit is sourced from older estate vines on free-draining silty clay loams in the Southern Valleys, where warm days and cool nights build flavour intensity while retaining natural acidity. Indigenous yeast fermentation for a portion of the blend adds complexity and a subtle smoky reduction, while bottling without fining preserves texture and authenticity.
Recognition & Accolades
Consistently celebrated as one of New Zealand’s most distinctive Sauvignon Blancs, Dog Point receives strong international critical acclaim.

Food Pairings
Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is exceptionally versatile at the table, pairing beautifully with dishes that highlight freshness and natural vibrancy. Raw oysters, grilled prawns, scallops or delicate white fish are classic partners, where the wine’s saline acidity lifts ocean flavours with precision. Its herbal and citrus notes also complement Thai green curry, sushi and herb-driven chicken dishes, while goat’s cheese, asparagus and artichoke plates are elevated by its mineral tension. The subtle smoky texture allows it to handle slightly richer seafood and creamy vegetarian cuisine, making it equally compelling as an elegant aperitif or a refined dining companion.
