Prophet's Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir is a refined, site-driven expression from one of Central Otago's most distinctive organic vineyards. Grown high above the Bendigo valley floor on ancient glacial terraces rich in clay, chalk and pedogenic lime, it combines remarkable depth with fine structure, perfume and mineral precision. Crafted with a restrained, Burgundy-influenced approach, this elegant Pinot Noir is a compelling choice for collectors, fine dining and premium gifting.
Tasting Notes & Experience
Deep ruby in colour, this expressive Pinot Noir opens slowly with peony, violet, red cherry and boysenberry, layered with black tea, anise and subtle cedar. The palate is warm, open and beautifully textured, revealing blood orange, juicy berries and fine spice over a distinctive chalky mineral line. Silken tannins and vibrant acidity provide graceful structure, carrying the wine towards a long, savoury finish with remarkable depth, aromatic lift and quiet complexity.

Craftsmanship & Story
Prophet's Rock was established during Central Otago's pioneering viticultural era, with Mike and Angela Mulvey planting vines across ancient glacial terraces in the late 1990s. Since 2005, winemaker Paul Pujol has shaped the estate's distinctive style, drawing on extensive experience in Burgundy and Alsace to favour restraint, texture and site expression over overt extraction. The Home Vineyard sits high in Bendigo on steep, north-facing slopes between 320 and 390 metres, where a dry alpine climate and dramatic day-to-night temperature shifts encourage slow, even ripening. Beneath the vines lie some of the oldest vineyard soils in the region, with layers of clay, schist and pedogenic lime forming a rare chalk-rich profile. Certified organic viticulture, low yields and meticulous hand-picking provide the foundation for wines of precision, depth and remarkable longevity.
Special Features
Home Vineyard Pinot Noir stands apart through its exceptional high-elevation terroir and the precision with which Prophet's Rock preserves its identity. Sourced exclusively from a 7.5-hectare site planted across seven Pinot Noir clones, the wine reflects ancient glacial soils formed roughly 650,000 years ago, where clay overlays a substantial layer of chalk and pedogenic lime. Yields are tightly controlled to concentrate flavour without sacrificing freshness. In the cellar, indigenous yeast fermentation and patient maturation in fine French oak allow the wine to develop complexity while retaining purity and tension. Bottled unfiltered under cork, it combines New World fruit intensity with an unmistakably European sense of restraint, resulting in a structured, aromatic Pinot Noir that rewards both immediate attention and careful cellaring.
Recognition & Accolades
Prophet's Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir has earned exceptional acclaim from leading international critics, reinforcing its reputation as one of Central Otago's most distinguished site-driven Pinot Noirs and a compelling expression of high-elevation Bendigo terroir.

Food Pairings
Prophet's Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir is superb with slow-roasted duck breast and cherry jus, where its vibrant red and dark fruits echo the succulent meat while fine acidity provides freshness and lift. Venison with juniper and roasted beetroot draws out its savoury spice, anise and earthy depth, while herb-crusted lamb beautifully complements its silken structure. For a vegetarian pairing, wild mushroom and truffle risotto mirrors the wine's cedar, black tea and forest-floor complexity. Aged Comté or Gruyère provides a final savoury contrast, allowing its chalky texture and long, perfumed finish to shine.
