Branca
The headquarters of Fratelli Branca is located in Milan, Italy, but they also produce some of their liqueur and vermouth in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Branca are perhaps most famous for their spectacularly intense digestif liqueur, Fernet Branca, which dates all the way back to 1845, when it was created by Bernardino Branca in Milan. It has grown incredibly popular over years, particularly in Argentina and San Francisco, where it is often served neat alongside ginger ale. Fernet Branca even made an appearance in The Dark Knight Rises, being enjoyed by Alfred Pennyworth! Nowadays, Branca also produce the Carpano brand of vermouth, including the rather wonderful Punt e Mes.
Carpano
Carpano is a famous vermouth brand with a history dating back to the 18th century in Turin, Italy. Vermouth is a wine flavoured with botanicals. Carpano's recipes are known for their quality.
Antonio Benedetto Carpano made the first sweet vermouth in 1786. This became popular in Turin's royal court. The Carpano Antica Formula is known for its vanilla taste and complex botanicals. It is still a key product and is loved by mixologists for its authentic flavour.
The brand has a range of vermouths. Beyond the Antica Formula, they make Punt e Mes. This is both sweet and bitter. The name means "point and a half" in Piedmontese. It refers to the balance of sweet and bitter tastes. Punt e Mes adds complexity to cocktails with its herbal and citrus notes.
The Bianco is a white vermouth. It is lighter but still complex. It has fresh, fruity notes with a touch of spice. This makes it good on its own with ice or in cocktails.
Carpano Dry is a less sweet vermouth. It suits those who prefer drier tastes. It is often used in Dry Martinis. It complements gin and lets its botanicals stand out.
These vermouths are made by infusing white wine with herbs, spices, and roots. This process has been refined over centuries. It makes a balanced and aromatic vermouth. Carpano is used as an aperitif and in cocktails like Negronis or Manhattans.
Carpano is known for its quality. This is not just because of its history. It's also due to its ongoing focus on craftsmanship and flavour. The bottles are elegant and reflect the brand's history. They are a sophisticated choice for any bar or drinks collection.
