"Deeply coloured and deeply delicious, this gorgeous shiraz shows black/blueberry, chocolate, cake spice and toasty oak characters on the nose. It’s powerful yet graceful on the palate, exhibiting excellent concentration and depth, well supported by silky texture and beautifully melded tannins. Plush and immensely appealing." Sam Kim

Winery notes - Vibrant, deep, purple-red. Dark cherry and blackberry primary aromas, with nuances of vanilla pod, milk chocolate and roasted nut. A fine tannin structure defines and shapes the bright compote of summer berry flavours into the long finish. This estate reserve wine is a classic, vibrant and fruit-forward McLaren Vale Shiraz from the excellent 2018 vintage.
Select Shiraz fruit taken from across all the soil types of the Shingleback Vineyard is harvested at optimal flavour ripeness. The wine is then hand crafted in small open fermenters before careful maturation in American and French oak. Individual barrels are selected to create a rich, complex wine with silky tannins and the intense berry flavours of McLaren Vale. A full bodied, powerful wine that will reward careful cellaring, but with sophisticated integration and tannin structure that ensure that the virtue of patience is not required.
During the 1990’s, Kym & John Davey brought their combined expertise in winemaking, farming & business to continue & develop the estate first farmed by their Grandfather in 1957. Their goal was, and remains, to produce affordable, quality wines that express the true character of McLaren Vale.
The sustainably managed 120 hectare family estate is planted predominantly with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller plantings that include Chardonnay, Fiano, Mataro, Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Touriga Nacional.
A modern, but minimalist, approach to crafting the wines is taken. Respecting the fruit is crucial. Small batch open fermentation, gentle handling, pressing and maturation result in balanced, food friendly wines, expressive of their terroir and variety.
From it’s genesis in 1998, when the first wine (Shingleback Shiraz) was released under the Shingleback label, the Shingleback portfolio has grown into a collection of fine wines that include Shingleback, The Bio Project, Haycutters, Red Knot and The Gate. Each made in its distinct style, these wines showcase the best the McLaren Vale region has to offer. They also represent a family committed to producing outstanding wines from the land they love.
